Marie France-Pisier, an award winning French actress, screenwriter and directer, was found dead in her swimming pool in April 2011. On the surface, this looks like an accident and that no foul play was justified. The emotion that I tried to portray in this image is one of innocence and unawareness; there is no evident reason or cause that would lead to her death.
Jeff Buckley, a humble American singer-songwriter and guitarist, when swimming in a channel of the Mississippi River in May 2007. Possibly dragged under the surface by a current, Buckley was missing for several days until he was found downstream by two locals. In this image, I aimed to show Buckley reaching out in desperation as is he was being dragged down. Most people have had that feeling of falling, whether it is driving over the peak of a hill or on a rollercoaster. The one that makes your eyes open and makes you feel as if your stomach rising up in your body.
This is a member of Viola Beach, young rock band that plummeted into the water after driving through a gap in the bridge. The driver, to most, would be thought to have some sort of mental condition but the police would say otherwise. The emotion I tried show in this image was the subject's surprise and protection; he is scrunching up his face and holding his hands out in front of him, trying to brace and protect himself for the water's impact.
Katoucha Niane, a French black model, was found in the River Seine, Paris, in February 2008. She had just returned home, to her houseboat, after a party when it was thought that she fell, intoxicated, into the river and drowned. My aim for this image was, firstly, to make the subject look like a model by her makeup and the way she dressed and, secondly, similar to that of Jeff Buckley - the feeling of falling (into the river).
Whitney Houston, an American singer, actress, producer and model, was found submerged in her hotel bathtub in February 2012. Her toxicology report stated that her death was caused by heart disease and cocaine use and was ruled as an accident, despite other drugs such as canabis that were found in her system. In this image, I aimed to portray relief as her emotion. Relief because it is likely that Houston experience a tremendous amount of stress in her life, especially in the later years when she was forced to deal with rumours, rows and family violence which then lead to her divorce; drugs being a relieving way out of it all.
